Yokosuka Ro-go Ko-gata Aircraft Overview

The Yokosuka Ro-go Ko-gata was a Japanese experimental glider designed and built by the Yokosuka Naval Air Technical Arsenal in the early 1940s. The name “Ro-go Ko-gata” translates to “experimental small glider” in English.

The Ro-go Ko-gata had a wingspan of 6.5 meters and was made primarily of wood with fabric covering. It was designed to be towed into the air by a powered aircraft and then released to glide back to the ground. The glider was used for research and training purposes, and was intended to help develop the skills and techniques needed for the development of larger gliders and other aircraft.

The Ro-go Ko-gata was not intended for combat use, and was produced in relatively small numbers. However, it did help to lay the groundwork for the development of more advanced Japanese gliders, such as the Kokusai Ku-8 and Ku-13, which saw limited use in combat during World War II.

After the war, the Yokosuka Ro-go Ko-gata was used by civilian glider clubs in Japan and also inspired the development of gliders in other countries. Today, a few surviving examples of the Ro-go Ko-gata can be found in museums and private collections around the world, serving as a testament to the ingenuity and innovation of Japanese aviation during World War II.
