Northrop F-5 Aircraft Overview
The Northrop F-5 is a family of supersonic fighter aircraft that was designed and built by Northrop Corporation in the United States. The F-5 was developed in the late 1950s as a lightweight, low-cost fighter that could be used for a variety of missions, including air superiority, ground attack, and reconnaissance.
The F-5 was originally developed as a privately-funded project by Northrop in the late 1950s. The first F-5 prototype flew in July 1959, and the aircraft entered service with the United States Air Force (USAF) in 1962. The F-5 was also sold to a number of countries around the world, and it saw extensive service in a variety of conflicts, including the Vietnam War, the Iran-Iraq War, and the Gulf War.
The F-5 is a lightweight, single-engine aircraft that is known for its agility and low cost. The aircraft is armed with two 20mm M39 cannons and can carry a variety of missiles and bombs, including the AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missile and the AGM-65 Maverick air-to-ground missile. The F-5 has a top speed of Mach 1.6 and a range of over 1,000 miles.
The F-5 has been continually upgraded over the years, with improvements to its avionics, engines, and weapons systems. The latest version of the F-5 is the F-5E/F Tiger II, which features a more powerful engine and improved avionics. The F-5 remains in service with a number of countries around the world, and it is still used for a variety of missions, including training, reconnaissance, and ground attack.
