Morane-Saulnier P Aircraft Overview

The Morane-Saulnier Type P, also known as the Morane-Saulnier Parasol or Morane-Saulnier Type AC, was a French fighter aircraft that served during World War I. It was designed by the Morane-Saulnier company and first flew in 1914.

The Morane-Saulnier Type P was a single-seat, single-engine parasol-wing monoplane with a wooden structure and fabric covering. It was powered by an 80-horsepower Le Rhône 9C rotary engine and had a top speed of around 97 miles per hour (156 kilometers per hour) and a ceiling of 13,000 feet (4,000 meters). The aircraft was armed with a single synchronized Vickers machine gun mounted on the fuselage.

The Type P was one of the first successful fighter aircraft of World War I, and was widely used by the French Air Force and other air forces. It was known for its speed, maneuverability, and ease of control, and was flown by many of France’s top aces, including Adolphe Pegoud and Georges Guynemer.

The Morane-Saulnier Type P was also the first aircraft to be fitted with a gun synchronized to fire through the propeller blades, which greatly increased its effectiveness in aerial combat. This technology was later used on many other fighter aircraft of the period.

Overall, the Morane-Saulnier Type P was an important milestone in the development of fighter aircraft, and helped establish the dominance of the parasol-wing monoplane configuration in the early years of World War I.
